Leak Location Correlation Survey with SoundSens ™.
(To find Leak, Correlate & Pinpoint actual leakage position, during a single site visit)

SoundSensStreet

Six or more SoundSens ™ Correlator Pods (CPs) can be deployed across a distribution pipe network where there is a suspected leakage problem, usually indicated by a rise in nightline on a logged district meter. Alternatively an area can be sweeped using SoundSens ™ as a routine periodic function if district meters are not available.

The SoundSens ™ CPs are set up to record a number of time slices, deployed across the chosen pipe network, then retrieved after the required logging period (sometimes overnight) and downloaded into the laptop/PC software. After downloading data from all deployed loggers, the software will survey the data to give an approximate location of any number of leaks in the distribution system. GIS or measured site information is then entered into the pipe network layout (map) module. The correlation software is finally re-run to determine accurate leak postion(s) to within 0.5 metre. The procedure can be repeated on different areas of the pipe network until the whole of the pipe network has been surveyed and appropriate correlations completed.

Using SoundSens ™ Correlator Pods in the above manner has been reported to save 400% time compared with more traditional leak finding and correlation positioning, because the SoundSens system can replace several actions in a single site visit.

For more difficult leaks, where ambient noise is too high during the day, pre-selected start times at night can be adopted, and the Correlating Pod's can be placed directly on the valves with the covers replaced, so as they are out of sight.

SoundSensHydrant On above ground hydrant's pinpointing of leaks is easily achieved by placing the Correlating Pod's on either of the 2" or 4" ports.

System compares correlation between same points at different times.
Consistent peaks, indicate consistent source of noise and therefore most likely to be leakage.

LEAK FINDING GETS EASY
FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WATER CO

( WOBURN , MA ) - For the technicians of Southern California Water Company (SCWC), a leak locating system from Radcom Technologies Inc has simplified the task of finding underground pipe bursts. Since introducing the SoundSens multi-point noise correlation system, the company has correctly identified leaks in noisy areas, and on challenging pipe materials like plastic and asbestos cement, in significantly less time than traditional survey methods.

SCWC uses two kits of six SoundSens correlation pods, which are placed around an area where leakage is suspected. Left to log noise data over a period of time, the self-contained pods perform multiple correlations to precisely identify sources of leak noise. Dedicated software then presents these leak positions overlaid on a clear schematic of the pipes in the area. Describing the software as "completely user friendly," Water Loss Control Technician Brian E Jensen comments: "The icons denoting pods and leaks are self-explanatory, making it easy when first using the product."

Because the process can be carried out without supervision overnight, areas with daytime traffic or construction noise can still be surveyed successfully. SCWC technicians claim that SoundSens effectively cuts out a time-consuming stage of the leak finding process, noting that the product is more than just a correlator, but also a sounding device. In contrast, other systems require the user to sound the network first and then correlate separately.

Southern California Water Company provides water services to 240,000 Californians. With the introduction of SoundSens, it became possible for a technician to survey an entire system containing 42 miles of water main in just a few days.
